A sensory room is a beginning.
The school community makes it work.
SENSES is a proposed school-based program that helps elementary schools plan and develop sensory-regulation rooms, establish thoughtful room-use procedures, and prepare staff to support students’ sensory and self-regulation needs.
This website is its digital educational companion for teachers and school personnel. The program is being developed for LAUSD’s Mid-City elementary school community, with a proposed pilot at one school before broader implementation.
Equip the school team

The SENSES consulting team would collaborate with the principal, existing school occupational therapist (OT), educators, and families. School OTs remain partners in identifying individual needs and guiding appropriate supports. The program’s planning draws on the Person–Environment–Occupation–Performance model and Dunn’s Sensory Processing Framework.
